Join the Board of ALF-PA!

Founded in 1985, the Abortion Liberation Fund of PA protects and expands abortion access no matter a person's reason, income, zip code, or method. We support individuals who need access to abortion today by providing counseling and financial assistance. We support individuals always through community organizing to build community power and foster community-based resources for mutual care and support. We are currently led by a working board of directors who, alongside the Interim Executive Director, collectively do the day-to-day work of running the organization, share the responsibility of governance, and ensure that we have the resources to fulfill our mission. In full transparency, we are in the process of rebuilding after a challenging 18 months that have adversely affected our fundraising and operations. We are grieving the loss of staff, board members, and funding. We are seeking individuals who are ready to join us in rebuilding our organization.

As an abortion fund, we first and foremost seek to center the leadership of people who have had abortions, people who have used abortion funds, and people who have experienced difficulty accessing abortion. We also seek to center groups most impacted by reproductive oppression and other intersecting injustices in our leadership: Black, Indigenous peoples, and other people of color, trans and gender nonconforming people, folks from low income communities, people with disabilities, immigrants, young parents, and people at the intersections of these identities and other marginalized groups are strongly encouraged to apply. We also encourage people who have never served on a board and/or without traditional leadership experience, young people or people in their early careers, and people from non-traditional educational backgrounds to apply. Preference for people who  reside in Pennsylvania/Philadelphia.

Our Mission

We envision a future for Philadelphia and surrounding counties where abortion liberation and other forms of reproductive freedom are normalized and celebrated. Abortion liberation means that people who seek abortions are free from shame, self-blame, or stigma. In this future, information about all types of abortion care is framed positively and abortion care is easy for anyone to access.

Community spaces exist to hold space for the range of emotions, including joy, confusion, and grief, that can arise for people making decisions about their reproductive health and wellbeing. All people have access to affordable, high quality care for children, elders, and other family members who need care.

We understand that true reproductive freedom will require a number of large scale systems changes including:

  • Ample access to stable employment that ensures economic security

  • Robust universal healthcare

  • Paid leave to support well-being

  • Housing security

  • Community-based interventions for addressing harm and supporting healing

  • Access to green space and other ways to connect to the earth

In this future an active and powerful multi-issue movement holds politicians accountable to people's needs. We are a part of this movement knowing that the people in this movement are committed to abortion liberation and reproductive justice within a larger frame of collective liberation.
